About the Position: Serves as an electrical specialist and technical advisor in a field responsible for on-site monitoring and control of construction operations requiring the application of a practical knowledge of electrical engineering and construction methods and techniques, practices, costs, materials and equipment, and the ability to read and interpret plans and specifications. Duties

Knowledge of Fire, Safety, and Environmental codes that apply to Federal Installations. Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC). Reviews proposed electrical equipment and confers with supervisor regarding coordination of the various trades so that work moves progressively and without avoidable interference. Determines whether electrical items and installation methods conform to contract requirements, local codes and applicable trade standards and practices. Prepares reports of progress of construction work, cost breakdown, and records of electrical materials. Prepares estimates of electrical work-in-place for use by other computing period payments and reporting progress. Reviews electrical shops drawings and recommends action to be taken to Area Engineer. Reviews requests for modifications and offers recommendations for change orders on electrical portions of work. Maintains surveillance over construction projects to assure that all items of electrical work and equipment are in conformance with contract plans and specifications. Determines acceptability and quality of work performed and recommends correction of deficiencies and solution to problems encountered. Reviews materials and equipment being used and installed by the contractor. Assures that all equipment is installed properly through inspections and testing. And ensures adequate safety components in compliance with all Federal requirements and local codes. Possess complete knowledge of safe practices and safety regulations. Knowledge of principles and practices applicable to engineering duties concerned with renovation and construction projects (i.e., electrical distribution systems and building electrical systems). Ability to read and interpret blueprints, practical mathematics, bid schedules, and cost estimates.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
