This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category/Critical Need, S U.S.C. 9902(h)(2), 6/6/2017 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: ???????Serve as a Police Officer within the Directorate of Emergency Services performing law enforcement duties in an area of concurrent and exclusive federal jurisdiction.
Duties
Prevent, detect and investigate violations of law, rules and regulations.
Patrol assigned areas on foot and by motor vehicle.
Conduct physical security checks of buildings, utilities and fence lines located within assigned patrol area.
Operate emergency vehicles equipped with radar in order to pursue speeding vehicles when enforcing traffic regulations or laws.
Prepare law enforcement related reports.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy; or successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date; or a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver.
- Incumbent will be required to successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within 6 months upon initial assignment to law enforcement duties and maintain certification.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination/recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation thereafter.
- Incumbent must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
- Incumbent must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer and is excluded from coverage as Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency/mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Incumbent may be required to serve an initial one-year probationary period if one has not already been served.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Specialized experience is defined as: work experience serving as a police officer responding to calls involving crimes ranging from simple violations to felonies; preparing law enforcement related reports and forms including statements, accident, patrol and/or field investigation reports; observing and reporting traffic safety hazards.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Direct Hire Authority will be used to fill these positions. The Category Rating, Veterans Preference and traditional rating and ranking of applicants does not apply to this vacancy.
