Qualifications
How Do I Qualify for this Position?
To be considered for the position, you must meet ONE of the following requirements for all grade levels: Basic Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics(AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. OR Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. OR Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist(RDN). NOTE: ALL applicants who are registered dietitians (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) MUST electronically upload proof of registration for verification at the time you apply. If you are selected for this position, you will be required to provide an OFFICIAL transcript prior to your first day on duty. AND Additional Requirements: Education: GL-09: Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree. GS-11: Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Experience: GL-09 AND GS-11 You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: GL-09
Experience in developing and conducting individual and group dietary counseling sessions.
Experience processing dietary orders, menu changes and other directives related to patient care.
Experience assisting in the development of policies and procedures for administering a nutrition and dietary program.
GS-11
Experience in monitoring the health and dietary needs of patients, recommending adjustments, and disseminating information regarding a medical diet program.
Experience in performing nutritional screenings, assessments, developing individual plans and providing dietary counseling.
Experience in conducting quality control and quality assurance to verify adherence to food service standards.
Experience in developing policies and procedures for administering a nutrition and dietary program.
OR Combination of Education & Experience: GL-09 AND GS-11: Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
