The position is located in the Sterile Processing Department, under the Office of Patient Care Services, located at the Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, IL. The primary purpose of the position is to perform motor vehicle operator duties for the Sterile Processing Service Department.
Duties
The Motor Vehicle Operator, operates vehicles such as shuttle carts, golf carts, vans, pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup- trucks, and sports utility vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 10,000 pounds.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Operates transport light-duty trucks which have a gross vehicle weigh up to 10,000 pounds. This includes sorting and preparing/Loading/unloading/delivering Reusable (critical, non-critical, or semi-critical) Medical Equipment (RMEs) in closed containers to the end users in different clinic locations on an assigned route schedule and/or as needed based on the needs of SPS and end users.
Maintains and monitors the temperature and humidity of both transport trucks.
Assist in delivering of case carts,red bins, and others, as needed to the Operating Room and other clinics within the main Hospital when not driving.
Maintain and monitor the cleanliness of the trucks. Maintenance such as oil change by coordinating with the VA or DOD transportation service.
Transport of employees using the SPS designated Van to 1017, 1007, 1523, 237 or other clinics, as needed. Re-stocking supplies needed. The incumbent will verify temperate and humidity in all SPS storage areas where Reusable Medical Equipment is stored.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Because of the size and weight of the vehicles involved, drivers are required to exert moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles. Minor roadside emergency repairs may also require a physical effort as well. Incumbent must have muscular and visual coordination, rapid reflexes, and depth and field of vision must be within normal limits. Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads weighing up to fifty pounds without assistance while employing correct lifting procedures. Hand trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads weighing more than fifty pounds. Must also be able to stoop, climb, stand, walk, squat and kneel to accomplish assigned work tasks.
