The primary purpose of this position is the supervision of the Medical Records Scanning Unit of the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) which falls under the Business Office at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS). The position serves as the supervisor for the staff responsible for scanning documents into the electronic medical record as well as administrative documents into VistA Imaging. This position is at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Managing, directing, supervising and administering the functions of the Scanning unit.
Serving as the Records Liaison for the HIM service;
Storing, tracking, and scanning of patients' Health Records;
Ensuring all internal policies and procedures are consistent within the section;
Managing daily operations within the scanning and record retrieval section of HIMS;
Ensuring staff are fully trained and performing at or above the fully successful level;
Ensuring all data entered into VistA Imaging and/or CPRS is accurate, timely, and complete;
Maintaining and updating the procedure manual for the units;
Ensuring that medical record requests are tracked and retrieved in a timely manner;
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must meet the below requirements.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience reviewing medical/health records utilizing medical terminology; reviewing reports, memorandums, and other forms of written correspondence; maintaining calendars and recording appointments and arranging meetings; utilizing computers to prepare meeting minutes, correspondence, reports and spreadsheets/databases.
