The VISN 19 Informatics Pharmacist is responsible for assisting with facility and VISN-wide efforts to improve EHR management of Veteran medications and care coordination. The focus of this position is to optimize effectiveness of patient care delivery and systems management in support of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) mission and goals as it relates to health informatics.

VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws The duties include, but are not limited to: Pharmacy Informatics Serves as a VISN Pharmacy Informatics subject matter expert on all matters related to the pharmacy package in the EHR. Assists with the modernization of the EHR as it relates to implementing and sustaining it in pharmacy across the VISN. Serves as a resource and liaison between IT and VISN pharmacies for clinical/pharmacy packages and applications. Applies specialized knowledge of health care leadership to the planning, organization, and evaluation of the delivery of pharmacy support services within the VISN EHRM organizational structure. Makes decisions and recommendations to VISN EHRM team that have a direct impact on the quality of pharmaceutical care provided to Veterans at all facilities and clinics that are affected by the EHRM. Contributes to the improvement of patient satisfaction, productivity, effectiveness, efficiency, and safety in pharmacy operations at all facilities in the VISN. Participates in the development of pharmacy EHR contingency operation plans and contributes to operations in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. Engages with and establishes effective relationships with key stakeholders such as Medical Center Pharmacists and VISN EHRM team. Participates in national, VISN or facility-level committees, workgroups and task forces related to the EHR as a VISN pharmacy representative. Maintains effective relationships demonstrating active problem resolution skills and close cooperation with facility, VISN and VHA program offices to accomplish the program mission and goals. Provides professional consultations to VISN and facility leadership concerning planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of EHR implementation and sustainment programs. Education and Development/Training Maintains working knowledge of the electronic health record software system and wide range of clinical needs. Trains staff on the aspects of the pharmacy informatics program within the VISN. Participates in meetings, conferences and programs that provide exposure and insight into hospital training programs that affect clinical staff. Quality Assurance Identifies outcomes that can be improved and leads performance improvement process for VISN pharmacy informatics programs. Assesses productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of operations and takes appropriate action. Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards when implementing EHR changes or reporting issues with pharmacy programs. Clinical Participates collaboratively with staff to design, implement, and evaluate clinical information system configuration and capabilities. Utilizes the capability of VA clinical information systems to assist practitioners in their practice. Supports national, VISN and facility clinical initiatives that focus on appropriate, outcome based cost-efficient use of selected medications. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: (1) Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Verification of approved degree programs may be obtained from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 North Clark Street, Suite 2500, Chicago, Illinois 60602-5109; phone: (312) 664-3575, or through their Web site at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/.(NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) (2) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16 English Language Proficiency. Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d) Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-13 Experience. In addition to the GS-12 requirements, you must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12). Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs: Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. Preferred Experience: At least 1 year of experience in Pharmacy Informatics in VA, including electronic health record configuration, applications and capabilities. References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/55 PART II APPENDIX G15 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-13..
