These positions serve as a High Voltage Electricians for the James A. Haley Veterans' Medical Center in the Maintenance and Operations Section of Facilities Management Service at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa, Florida. This facility is a highly active, modem bed hospital providing around the clock primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care. In addition to the hospital itself, support services are provided by FMS to Outpatient Clinics as well as the Veterans Centers.

Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to the following: Incumbent installs, modifies, tests, repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains generators, generator controls, cathodic protection, transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found throughout a modem large scale hospital campus. Incumbent installs, modifies, connects, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical distribution lines serving the scores of buildings on the hospital's campus. Incumbent services lines, substations, transformers, insulators, solar power equipment, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, along with associated controls and equipment. Supplies & Inventory -Checking inventory of shop supplies and materials to ensure that proper quantity is on hand at all times, ordering needed equipment, parts and supplies to complete repairs (5%). Work -repairs -Preventive Maintenance -Generate and complete work orders and repairs for the 13,200 vac system at the hospitals nine (9) substations and the power plant, taking samples, testing, and maintaining the 90,000 gallons of diesel fuel, complete Daily, Weekly and Monthly inspection on Engines, generators, air systems, fuel systems, load bank, and other associated equipment including PM's (40%). Operations -Assist in Plant operations to include interpreting guidelines such as operating criteria of equipment, schematics and wiring diagrams and determines load priority for various systems and equipment in order to set the automatic load shedding equipment, swapping the feeds that go to the plant (15%). Administration-Maintain all daily logs and records for the power plant, the daily, weekly and monthly inspection on equipment, Monthly generator and Automatic Transfer Switch Testing, Utility failure reports, and the records for sampling, testing, the 90,000 gallons of diesel fuel (20%). Contractor assist-Work with outside contractors to include Infrared testing 13,200 vac equipment (10%). Power outages -expected to anticipate unscheduled load changes and detect early evidences of equipment malfunction in order to maintain continuous service to the hospital (10%). Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

Related experience includes installing, modifying, testing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining generators, generator controls, cathodic protection, transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements; and services distribution lines serving numerous buildings, substations, and transformers. This experience must be documented in your resume to receive credit) AND PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Physical Effort: Incumbent frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Incumbent uses block and tackle, pulleys, or other lifting devices. Incumbent must crouch, stand, kneel, and stoop while installing, repairing, or testing electrical equipment in confined spaces such as enclosed switch gear, or in structures such as overhead bus and conduit assemblies. Incumbent works above ground from aerial equipment, ladders, scaffolding, platforms, elevated lifts, at ground level, trenches, and manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods while installing, repairing, and testing electrical equipment from and in the situations listed. Working Conditions: Incumbent will work within the medical facility's operating functions and must use all appropriate safety tools and clothing to protect themselves, other staff, visitors and patients. This includes environments that include exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals and materials including asbestos. Incumbent works indoors and outdoors, is exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vaults, as well as danger from high voltage electrical shock, burns, broken bones, cuts, and bruises. Incumbent is exposed to heat and noise when working in substations or power-generating facility, to extremes of weather when working outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet slippery surfaces when working in manholes. They are subject to electrical bums while working around high voltage electrical lines, broken bones from falls from poles, and strains from awkward work positions. They arc exposed to chemicals such as insulation oil from transformers and oil switches. They use protective devices such as earplugs, safety hats, and nonconductive gloves and footwear. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
