This position is located in Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program of the VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA.
Duties

Providing employment services to Homeless Veterans;
Providing therapeutic employment, skills training and development, employment support, and job development and placement services to Veterans in need of rehabilitation for mental health and/or co-occurring physical disorders;
Working with members of an interdisciplinary team, community agencies, and community employers with the goal of assisting Veterans in obtaining and maintaining suitable employment;
Adapting the best practices of the program to meet the needs of Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness;
Interviewing Veterans referred to the program and developing a vocational assessment to identify strengths and interests;
Utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to ensure the highest level of support;
Gathering information to assist the Veteran in identifying occupational areas to target job search activities;
Assisting Veterans in understanding financial benefits entitlement programs and housing eligibility requirements;
Monitoring Veteran progress, providing feedback, and providing assistance with the job search process;
Assisting Veterans in obtaining community employment;
Providing ongoing support, negotiating worksite accommodations as needed, and developing natural supports within the community and work setting;
Providing onsite support or training to the Veteran as needed;
Assisting Veterans in resolving personal problems and/or arranging for services to assist the Veteran;
Documenting electronic medical records by entering assessment data, plans, summaries, progress, etc.;
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires a valid state driver's license. Please do not provide a copy of your license, it will be collected at interview. ~AND~
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-09: One year of specialized experience that provided a knowledge of the training practices, techniques, and requirements related to vocational development or rehabilitation. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing vocational guidance or teaching in a recognized vocational rehabilitation program or school; obtaining and applying occupational information for people with disabilities; motivating and encouraging individuals served by a vocational program; identifying, evaluating, and making effective use of such resources to serve individuals with disabilities; and placing persons having disabilities or social adjustment problems into employment opportunities. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~
A master's degree, equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in vocational rehabilitation, vocational or educational counseling, or other fields related to the position. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. ~OR~

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position are moderate. Although some of the physical work is sedentary, there will be significant (50 - 70% of the time) local travel for support purposes. This local travel may involve operating VA vehicles in inclement weather. The stress related to providing services to Veterans in emotional distress or who may be demanding and uncooperative, can be more significant than that of most sedentary positions.
Work Environment: Work is performed in a well-lit and climate-controlled office environment. The position also requires local travel to different potential work locations, community locations, and Veteran work sites. Incumbent may also have to occasionally work outside in performing job observations or interventions of Veteran work performance. Duties will be performed within the confines of the medical center, at community work sites, and at businesses and agencies providing services to Veterans. Risk or discomforts are typical of other similar areas within the medical center. The nature of the Veterans served may entail some risk of physical harm if they become agitated.
