This position is located at the Colorado River Service Unit, Parker Indian Health Center, Laboratory Department, Parker AZ. The incumbent serves as Clinical Laboratory Scientist responsible for the application, modification, adaptation and extension of analytical methods and procedures in the performance of a variety of tests/examinations of human tissue, fluids and/or other substances in the clinical laboratory.This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19.
Duties
Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory test/examinations per requests by medical staff for use in clinical diagnosis, patient screening, monitoring patient therapy, and status and other authorized purposes.
Sets up, operates, and/or utilizes appropriate equipment, instruments, containers and other devices, and materials to perform qualitative analysis of substances. Performs blood draws by venipuncture and capillary methods and refers to manual which instructs patients and/or hospital personnel in collection, preservation and transport of specimens.
Performs such related tasks as proper labeling; cleaning and sterilizing equipment, glassware and instruments and writing reports on results. Interprets and evaluates results of in-house tests/examinations in process and upon completion of lab orders.
Performs preventative maintenance, periodic inspection and performance testing or equipment and instruments per service unit policy.
Certification/licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body is a good indication that the quality of experience is acceptable.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR
Completed a full 4- year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post-bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's degree in medical technology. OR
Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, AND 5 years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0644-09
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in (1) the general field of medical technology, (2) one of the disciplines or specialized areas of medical technology, or (3) a field directly and applicable to medical technology or the position to be filled. OR
1 year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at the least the GS07 grade level performing the following duties or tasks: Evaluating requested procedures to determine the suitability of specimen for analysis; requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable; preparing reagents and primary reference materials; calibrating, standardizes, adjusting and maintaining instruments; and verifying correct instrument operations using established procedures and quality control checks. OR
Combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.
