Maintenance Mechanic is located in the VA Construction Section in Facility Management Service (FMS) at the Veteran Affairs Caribbean Health Care System. Plans and lays out the work using blueprints, sketches, work orders, and other specifications. Position is assigned the electrical maintenance, repair and construction of building facility and equipment.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the maintenance, construction, modification, alteration and repairing interior decorating and structural items such as: doors, partitions, windows, finished paneling, interior and exterior trims, screens, roofs, floor coverings, shelving's cabinets, etc. Measures, cuts, constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items such as scaffolding, staging parts, panels, bins pallets, concrete forms, dray walls, and roof decking. Operates and uses a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Plans, measures, and lays out carpentry materials by interpreting complex or incomplete instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes. Repairs plumbing systems, the work involves installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Repairs equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches, to plan and perform the task. Completes other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD672-13148-A Physical Requirements: The work performed by employee is related to station level construction projects and requires lifting, carrying, pulling weights up to 75 pounds. Adjustments, repairs and replacement of parts and materials for assemblies may require kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, reaching over, under and into equipment while in cramped or awkward position. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Must be proficient in spoken Spanish.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
