This position is a Secretary for El Paso VA Health Care System (EPVAHCS). This position Is aligned in the Special Exams Unit who has responsibility for various clinical programs such as Compensation & Pension (C&P), Registry, and Transplant Programs to include Veteran Centered Care (VCC).

Duties

Major duties include: Responsible for accurate communication and coordination of all administrative information between the professional staff and the patient at the point of service. Provides excellent customer service. Receives, schedules, refers, and contacts members of the staff, agency, and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to the general public. Provides general clerical public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing information about the office. Screens calls. Serves as liaison between HRMS and service for submission of Personnel Action Forms (SF- 52), and maintains a suspense file for HRMS follow-up items such as licensure renewals, promotions, step increases, performance appraisals, etc. Serves as the timekeeper for the unit and as the TMS coordinator inputting service training data. Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence. reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication. Edits letters, composes letters and reports, reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness, prepares public presentation outlines, and develops standard or form letters and replies to Inquiries. Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Provides general calendar maintenance clerical services such as maintaining calendars and recording appointments or arranging for meeting and small conference administrative details. Obtains and monitors the use of services, supplies, or equipment for the offices. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/01/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Provides general clerical public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing Information about the office, screens calls, maintains files, serves as the timekeeper. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school. (Transcripts Required). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) to be creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (Transcripts Required). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
