As a General Equipment Mechanic assigned to the Preventive Maintenance Shop of the Plant Operations Unit in the Engineering Service at the Miami VA Healthcare System, you are responsible to perform a variety of general mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic duties including but not limited to repair, installation, modification, and preventive maintenance of hospital furniture.

Duties

Duties of the position include but are not limited to: Performing a variety of general mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic duties including but, not limited to repair, installation, modification, and preventive maintenance of hospital furniture. Repairing, maintenance, installing and modification of primary service compressors, vacuum pumps, auxiliary generators, medical gas manifolds, battery operated and motor-driven floor scrubbers, floor polishers, vacuum cleaners, electric pallet trucks, hydraulic pallet jacks as well as a variety of electrical cleaning equipment Performing modification and re-matching of bushings, bearings, seals, couplings, heads, pistons, valves, guiders, and other equipment Daily work varies in working on different types of equipment throughout the Medical Center Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: General Equipment Mechanic/PD546-05569-A Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/01/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work may be performed in dirty and unsafe areas, and the employee may be frequently exposed to hazards of electrical shock, tripping, falling, cuts, contusions, abrasions, dust, fumes and vapors. Must be able to lift 75 pounds unassisted and be able to stoop, crawl, climb and work from scaffolds. Employee must have good eyesight and hearing and full use of limbs. Working Conditions: Work may be performed both in the shop as well as throughout the entire Medical Center and may be performed outdoor in inclement weather. Employee is required to know and practice safety practices at all times and to wear protective clothing when required.
