Duties

Supports the Security Forces Operations section with planning, management, and oversight of the civilian police force, as well as supporting overall execution of unit missions Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties with the military installation.

  • Employee must maintain current certifications. Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.

  • This position may be designated as mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • This position may be designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternates for filling the position during an emergency are not available.
  • Incumbent must have ability to employ "Infantry/SWAT" small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time.
  • Incumbent must pass initial formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional, certificate from a federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred.
  • This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle, an appropriate driver's license is required. Incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces vehicles and installed equipment and to be qualified in the use of required weapons.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties and carries and uses a firearms in the performance of my duties.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Police Officer Series 0083. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes Examples of specialized experience includes implementing, planning, integrating security forces goals and objectives; analyzing facts, researching and recommending appropriate actions to resolved issues that impact security forces operations; utilizing a wide range of federal laws and local laws for law enforcement and security duties. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of law enforcement and anti-terrorism theories, principles, methods, techniques, and practices to establish policies and procedures and administer a comprehensive security/law enforcement protection program. 2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to operate and direct others in operating under stressful and dangerous conditions. 4. Knowledge of the tactics, techniques, and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, enemy attacks, and related threats to installations. 5. Ability to plan, organizes, direct the functions, mentor, motivate, and apprise the staff on organization through subordinate supervisors. 6. Ability to formulate and effectively implement special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced. 7. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
