This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to perform alignment, calibration, test, troubleshooting and functional analysis of a variety of integrated systems consisting of sensory inputs from such sources as radar, television, laser, optics stable elements, altimeters, flight control surfaces and armament systems whose inputs are integrated by a central analog or digital computer or other integrating devices that provides outputs which perform a variety of functions such as indication, automatic range and angle tracking; initiate armament firing sequence; and provides steering information to the pilot or the autopilot. Serves as subject matter expert in solving various technical problems that arise on the system or any portion thereof. Trains reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. Incumbent must meet all requirements of the Personal Reliability Program for a controlled position. Duties: 1. Visually inspects integrated avionics systems, equipment, and interface for evidence of loose or missing equipment, excessive heat, and equipment requiring modifications. 2. Receives entire system(s) or any portion thereof along with work documents, using systems test devices, and performs needed tests. 3. Accomplishes functional tests while aircraft is in run-up condition. 4. Works with factory representatives and/or systems or item managers or technicians in providing solutions to technical problems or in analysis of proposed modifications or changes to existing technical specifications or test parameters and the overall effect on the system(s). 5. Performs as troubleshooter in shop areas in which work is being accomplished on various integrated system(s), components, and subsystems. In some instances, utilizes Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) to perform test on electronic integrated equipment to determine existence, nature, and location of malfunction.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family, WG 2600 Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. 4. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units. 5. Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems; to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be change or adjusted to compensate; and to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems such as inertial navigation systems, and automatic flight control, or fire control systems. 6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. 3. May work uncommon tour of duty. 4. May be required to work overtime. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. 5. Performs other related duties as assigned. 6. Incumbent must maintain PRP status as a condition of employment and must qualify for and maintain the appropriate security clearance as well as maintaining all other PRP requirements for a controlled position. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes performed at missile sites, or in aircraft, sometimes outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
