About the Position: Serves under the supervision of the Transportation and Maintenance Division Chief. Work leader issues instructions and guidance on work sequence, procedures, and deadlines and is available to provide information or decisions regarding problems that may arise during work. The overall work operations in the maintenance shop are reviewed by the work leader for status/progress, causes of delays, completion of work orders, and other problems that may arise.
Duties
Work closely with team members setting the pace and pass on instructions received from supervisor and starts work.
Evenly distribute workload to team members and conducts in progress and final quality control inspections.
Verify compliance with supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Answer team members' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders)
Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
As a journeyman Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, perform the full range of General Support (GS) maintenance and repair of complex Military and Commercial equipment.
Troubleshoot, diagnose malfunctions and effect the full range of systems and component repairs to engine and power train assemblies and transmissions.
Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to hydraulic mechanisms and pneumatic systems, fuel injection systems, electro-mechanical systems, electro-hydraulic systems and supervisory electronic control mechanisms.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Subject to random drug testing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain driver's license. Incumbent must possess or have the capability to acquire a government license and commercial driving license (CDL) and the required endorsements within 180 days.
- Incumbent must undergo physical examination and receive favorable results prior to appointment and annually thereafter.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead the work of Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics demonstrated by experience rebuilding overhauling, tearing down, reassembling, repairing and/or modifying a wide range of types and sizes of heavy mobile equipment such as heavy construction and earth moving vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Very frequently lifts, positions and carries items weighing 75 pounds. Items weighing in excess of 75 pounds are normally lifted by more than one person or moved with mechanical devices. Work involves prolonged standing on asphalt or concrete surfaces, stooping, work in confined spaces, and working in cramped or awkward positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a shop environment and frequently out of doors subject to adverse weather conditions. Work environment includes exposure to intermittent noise, dust and dirt, grease and oils, and use of chemical solvents. Posted safety hazards include eye, foot and hearing hazardous areas. Safety equipment to include safety toed shoes, face shields, protective aprons, gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs and hearing protective devices are issued for hazard abatement, required for use during each actual exposure to hazardous work conditions.
