The incumbent performs a variety of tasks involved in routine service calls and preventative maintenance in the upkeep and repair of buildings, grounds, and related structures, equipment, fixtures, and utilities. Tasks are accomplished utilizing a variety of trade skills including electrical/electrical equipment repair, carpentry, heating, air conditioning, welding, plumbing, and painting.

Duties

Major Duties: Monitors the electrical/mechanical plant utility system, handling emergencies that arise due to minor breakdowns and power outages. Disassembles, repairs, modifies, assembles, and tests a variety of electrical equipment such as AC/DC motors, voltage regulators, servo mechanisms, transformers, actuators, power control panels, instrument panels, and inverters. Installs and operates electrical fixtures, wiring, and controls. Performs full range of carpentry skills and techniques in repairing, constructing, altering, and maintaining wood/wood substitute components of buildings and structures. Painting, plumbing, welding, and building maintenance tasks. Installs and operates electrical fixtures, wiring and controls. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. May work from ladders and scaffolding. When operating equipment, the worker may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs and by the vibration and jerking of equipment. Carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing up to and occasionally exceeding 40 pounds.
