As a Historic Architect you will represent the Superintendent when working with others on historical architecture matters; direct a complex program of historical architecture preservation activities which may impact a wide variety of parks; perform duties reviewing, designing, treating, monitoring historic and prehistoric structures. Duties

Duties Include Directing an intricate program of historical architecture preservation activities that involve complex issues that may impact a wide variety of park issues. Providing professional historical architectural advice and guidance on the planning, design, construction, rehabilitation of structures. Performing architectural duties associated with review, design, treatment, and monitoring of historic and prehistoric structures. Conducting on-site investigations of project sites to determine the feasibility of proposed projects. Developing work plans, schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, proposals and/or grants to justify funding requests and accomplish goals. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately 11.5 months, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year, approximately 2 weeks.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/31/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Basic Requirements: ARCHITECT 0808-- You must meet one of the following: A. Possess a degree in either Professional Architecture or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related discipline of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. -OR- B. Possess a combination of education and experience--college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: 1) Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. 2) Experience: An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. DOI Standards for Historical Architecture- Successful completion of a professional degree in architecture or a State license to practice architecture and one of the following: At least one year of graduate study in architectural preservation, American architectural history, preservation planning, or closely related field; or At least one year of full-time professional experience on historic preservation projects. Such graduate study or experience shall include detailed investigations of historic structures, preparation of historic structures research reports, and preparation of plans and specifications for preservation projects. You must submit proof of your degree of course work. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Serving as architectural project coordinator for planning, design, and construction projects; performing architectural work involving the development or design of conceptual park site plans of a diverse, multi- functional, high profile, and possibly controversial nature (such as rehabilitation of a multi-facility development, visitor centers, wastewater treatment plants, national monuments, historical structures, cultural landscapes, etc.); assisting with or establishing historic architectural project requirements and priorities and developing strategies to achieve short or long-term goals; developing scope of work and monitoring architectural project activities and outcomes as Contracting Officer's Representative. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
