This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Women's Health Unit (WHU) of Gallup Indian Medical Center Gallup, NM. This position provides orientation and develop nursing personnel as well as direct, implement and evaluate the nursing education programs on the Women's Health (labor and delivery, and postpartum) and Pediatrics units.
Duties

Identifies, evaluates and implements instructional material in all types of media and formats to meet the needs of the nursing staff.
Develops curriculum for the identified programs based on standards of care, evidence-based practice, and educational needs of the participants. Maintains records and/or reports of educational activities to ensure compliance with nursing standards of care and accrediting agency requirements.
Promotes professional development and competency through specialized training and certification programs with administrative assistance.
Coordinates orientation for new staff, working closely with the departments to ensure proper orientation is completed. Develops, organizes, and evaluates initial and on-going competency training.
Operates various types of medical equipment, computers, and audio-visual equipment.
Participates in committees, task forces and projects assigned by the supervisor.
Maintains and prepares reports regarding employee education via Health Stream, presents these reports and other staff development reports monthly
Promotes and actively participates in Service Unit and departmental improvement activities.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience utilizing professional nursing principles and practices throughout all activities for high risk OB patients and Pediatric patients, educational methods, including lesson planning, questionnaire development, evaluation tools, record keeping and design of teaching materials/formats, counseling, guidance and education nursing staff in groups or individuals; implementation of performance and quality improvement measures, uses a variety of equipment used in training and education and familiar with continuing education application; demonstrate and instruct staff on the proper use of equipment being used in WHU and Pediatric Unit.
