This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Truxton Canon Agency in Valentine, Arizona. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall management of natural resources on trust lands for the Tribes under the jurisdiction of Agency and will have responsibility for coordinating with other branches and Federal agencies in water and soil conservation and rangeland and forestry management.

Duties

As a Natural Resources Specialist, GS-0401-12, your typical work assignments and/or responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Formulate and establishes work in the management, conservation, protection and utilization of the soil, range, wildlife, mineral and water resources. Responsible for all matters involving tribal natural resources programs within the jurisdiction of the Agency. Renders assistance to individual allottees as requested or required to meet their property management objectives with competent leasing to mediate disputes or controversies. Administers a comprehensive compliance program as it relates to use or occupancy of lands. Perform field investigations and monitors and assists in the enforcement of lease and/or permit stipulations.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATION REQUIREMENTS BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Examples of specialized experience may include: conducting natural resource management and administration of agricultural and range management to include outdoor recreation, soil and moisture conservation, environmental compliance, and land and permit compliance; and maintaining an effective working relationship with other Federal, tribal, and state entities or programs on a continuing basis to ensure coordination and cooperation. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. NOTE: THE PAY FLEXIBILITIES OF A RECRUITMENT BONUS OR RELOCATION BONUS MAY BE AUTHORIZED, PENDING AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS AND MANAGEMENT APPROVAL. Student Loan Repayment may be authorized.

Education

If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
