The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers while they install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain and repair interior/exterior high, medium and low voltage electrical power generation, distribution and associated electronic control systems.

Duties

Incumbent is an expert on electrical power systems and equipment. Must lead at least three workers as they use state of the art, highly complex, and technical test equipment to install modify programming, test, repair, and maintain the complex integrated electronic, fiber optic, and computer controlled airfield lighting system. Modifies programming, tests, maintains, and repairs the integrated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Leads work crews as they use state of the art, highly complex and technical test equipment to perform depot level maintenance and repairs on sensitive electric and electronic equipment. Leads work crews in the installation, modification, testing, repair and maintenance of transformers, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and integrated electronic systems and other circuit elements found in substations, power plants, and comparable portable power generation units.

  • This position requires the employee to work on and around high voltage electrical generating and distribution equipment and rotating machinery in excess of 100.000 pounds. Heavy lifting and carrying of 25 lbs. and over with assistance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Electrical Equipment. 2. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices. 3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). 4. Ability To Use Electrical Drawings. 5. Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work). 6. Trouble shooting (electrical). PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Education

Physical Effort.
The employer frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling and carrying of equipment and material up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and occasionally lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing and standing for long periods. At times worked in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs and body are needed to perform tasks.

Work Conditions.
Employee works indoors and outdoors. Exposed to heat, noise and vibration and power plants and two extremes of weather when outside. Working conditions in power plants frequently include wet, slippery surfaces. Poor illumination, unpleasant odors, gases, fumes, and exposure to oils, lubricants and chemical clean. Agents. The employee is subject to burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises and strains. Involves working in up to 120 foot bucket trucks on ladders, on and around rotating machinery and energized electrical equipment. Safety equipment includes safety shoes, glasses and respirator.
