This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the Medical Occupation DHA to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a civilian position located at the Harrisburg Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) at Mechanicsburg, PA.
Duties
Ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) requirements and Privacy Act data protection standards, including USMEPCOM, Department of Defense and applicable service regulations and directives.
Review patient medical records, perform detailed medical histories and physicals, and evaluate labs to determine military suitability.
Determines if a more detailed physical exam of problem areas is required.
Assess the applicant's mental and physical health fitness for service in the military.
Communicates directly with applicants on issues regarding abnormal findings personally or in writing.
Advise the MEPS Commander on professional and medical technical aspects of conducting the MEPS medical examination program.
Complete all computer and non-computer based medical documentation in accordance with current United States Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) software packages and policies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant’s graduation.
- Graduate Training: subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, an applicant must have had and completed at least 1 year of supervised experiences providing direct service in a clinical setting
- Licensure: applicants must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Credentials: prior to a final job offer, applicants must have required credentials reviewed and initial medical services appointment made by the Headquarters, United States Military Entrance Processing Command.
- All Heath Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- May be designated as the Chief Medical Officer during short absences.
- Must maintain all regulatory required certifications/licenses.
- Twenty percent business travel or temporary duty (TDY) requirement on an annual basis to other Military Entrance Processing Stations to cover staffing shortages.
- Credentials: The Assistant MO must maintain an active, unrestricted, state medical license at all times, which includes completion of CME credits as mandated by individual states.
- Must be familiar with computer peripherals and associated software as needed to accomplish the mission.
- Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
- Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System(MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP)/Drug Testing position. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Basic Requirement for Physician:
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience/Training: Applicants must possess 2 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
