This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH), Healthcare Services. The AFRH is an independent Agency in the Executive Branch of the US Government. The AFRH provides residences and related services for certain retired and former members of the US Armed Forces.
Duties
As a Clinical Nurse, you will:
Assess and evaluate daily the resident's condition
Administer medications observing the five rights, knowledgeable of the use and side effects of each medication and completes the appropriate documentation.
Provide comprehensive nursing care for the geriatric patients based on the nursing process.
Initiate health teaching for residents, family/significant other.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-10, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes ALL of the following:
Conducting patient/resident assessments; AND
Developing, reviewing, and carrying out nursing care plans; AND
Administering medication (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, topical, rectal, intravenous, etc.); AND
Communicating patient/resident condition and changes to patient/resident, nursing personnel, physicians, and family members.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
Registration: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
RN - For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.
Education
Education Requirements: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
