Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for litigation and trial support for the office, and processing legal discovery. Advises attorneys on effective utilization of litigation support resources, and acts as a technical expert on automated litigation support operations within the district. Typical assignments and duties will include:
Use eDiscovery and eLitigation software to organize voluminous data, documents, and media for efficient retrieval,
Provide technical advice to litigation teams on complex eDiscovery and litigation issues, data management issues, and legal automation system capabilities,
Provide litigation support to attorneys for trial preparation and presentations in court,
Manage eDiscovery processing platforms, discovery review software and databases, and trial presentation software,
Utilize and train others in the use of case management software, eDiscovery and eLitigation programs, and other applications.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications
GS-07: To be eligible at the GS 07 level, you must meet the definition of Specialized Experience, as defined below:
Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 05 level performing the following types of duties: Operating litigation support hardware or software (i.e. Eclipse, Relativity, Trial Director, etc) and/or performing routine litigation support assignments such as organizing case information; cataloging, organizing, and reviewing discovery; assisting attorneys with trial preparation to include items such as subpoenas, trial exhibits, information requests, pleadings, and correspondence.
OR
Education: One full year graduate education leading to a degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology); or a Masters or equivalent graduate degree in one of the above fields, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Transcripts are required. OR A Bachelor's Degree AND possess at least one of the following criteria:
class standing in the upper third of the graduating class;
an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR
election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.

Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of graduate semester hours. Then divide the total number of your graduate semester hours by 18. To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. Transcripts are required.
GS-09: To be eligible at the GS 09 level, you must meet the definition of Specialized Experience, as defined below:
Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 07 level performing the following types of duties: Operating litigation support hardware or software (i.e. Eclipse, Relativity, Trial Director, etc) and performing a variety of non-routine automated support necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence, and data relevant to cases presented before a jury, grand jury or in other legal proceedings, cataloging, organizing, and reviewing discovery; assisting attorneys with trial preparation and presentation to include items such as subpoenas, trial exhibits, information requests, pleadings, and correspondence.
OR
Education: A Master's, LL.B. or J.D., or equivalent graduate degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology); or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that is related to the position and demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Transcripts are
required.
OR
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.
(Please note: Only education in excess of 1 full year is creditable.) To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of hours that exceed 18 semester hours. Then divide the total number of your excess semester hours by 18. To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. Transcripts are required.
GS-11: To be eligible at the GS 11 level, you must meet the definition of Specialized Experience, as defined below:
Specialized experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 09 level performing the following types of duties: Providing technical advice to litigation teams on complex eDiscovery, eLitigation and data management issues, legal automation system capabilities, and managing all phases of the eDiscovery lifecycle, acting as an eDiscovery expert, managing eDiscovery processing platforms, discovery review software and databases, trial presentation software, and spreadsheet and word processing applications. Working with attorneys and trial teams to prepare presentations for court for complex litigation and/or non-routine situations.
OR
Education: A Ph.D., LL.M., or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology); or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree that is related and demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Transcripts are required.

Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.

Then divide the total number of your excess semester hours by 18. To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12.
