THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 WIRE COMMUNICATIONS CABLE SPLICER (MI 127 CF), Position Description Number 00887 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 5 NATIONAL GUARD EXPECTED POSITION*** The primary purpose of this position is to maintain and repair communications cables systems including telephone, local area network (LAN), and special purpose systems, both fiber and copper. Cables are primarily buried or underground. Plans and develops cable requirements for all new construction, supporting the mission of all base facilities. DUTY 1. Installs, maintains, repairs; splices; modifies and removes copper core, fiber optic, and. special purpose cable systems underground and direct buried. Uses drawings, task lists, instruction, and technical orders or commercial manuals to work on voice, alarm, and control systems that are an integral part of telephone, radar, navigational-aids, meteorological, and computer networking. 2. Locates, repairs and replaces faulty closures in cable systems whether copper core, fiber optic, or special purpose cables using cable splicing tools, test equipment, and ground power equipment. Uses appropriate equipment to test and assess the severity of a problem. 3. Monitors, analyzes and performs preventive maintenance on copper core, fiber optic and special purpose cable systems and troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces integral components of distribution systems. Determines causes of signal deterioration in cable carrying audio, video, digital, and data transmission. 4. Performs in-shop duties necessary to enable ongoing maintenance operations for cable shop. Maintains bench stock levels of special parts and materials to maintain the cable systems. Performs user maintenance on assigned cable vehicles and support units. Maintains work section in a clean and orderly condition and keeps work area free of debris. Manages chemical hazards in work environments. 5. Installs, locates removes and repairs cable duct distribution systems. Locates and clears blockages in underground conduit using duct rods and cleans and prepares duct for pulling in cables. Installs and uses roper apparatus to pull cables into duct systems. Installs and repairs split duct to repair existing damage cable or duct systems or to go under new hard surface areas. 6. Maintains Communication Information Systems Installation Records (CSIR), maintenance and inspection cable records and technical orders. Post entries on maintenance records and CSIRs ensuring plant-in-place records and other documents are current and accurate. Initiates and completes documents detailing test histories for trend analysis. 7. Develops communication cable requirements, including distribution systems or new cable/constriction projects. Maintains status of existing communication resources in order to advise System Telecommunications Engineering Manager (STEM) and Engineering and Installation (E&I) Engineers on new projects and scheme actions. * The above duty description doesn't contain all details of the official position description. Qualifications

In your resume you will need to address the general and specialized experience listed below. This information is needed to determine if you are qualified for the position. Experience or training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of telephone equipment. Must have a knowledge of the principles of electricity and electronics, and be able to use test equipment, wiring diagrams, schematics and other specifications. Specialized Experience: 18 Months Experience installing, maintaining and repairing special cable systems, experience running wire, installing molding, insulators, connectors and terminal boxes, and other protective and support items. Experience in the use of complex test equipment such as hand test sets, volt-ohmmeters, tone testers, etc. Experience in reading and understanding layout sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, building plans, etc. Experience using power tools and test equipment.
