You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.

Duties

You will maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and modify a variety of heavy duty vehicles and mobile equipment designed for purposes such as construction, combat, earth moving, firefighting, and comparable industrial or special applications. You will determine repairs, adjustments, and modifications needed for heavy mobile equipment. You will consult technical documents and manuals (e.g., manufacturer's manuals, technical publications) to verify heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repairs are completed correctly.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • May be required to take part in mobility exercises and contingency operations that may take place during core or off duty hours (e.g. 12-24 hour shifts, weekends, etc.).
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION 1) Repairing complex systems on a wide assortment of heavy mobile equipment and specialized equipment and systems, in accordance with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles; 2) Utilizing a wide variety of test equipment (e.g. engine analyzers, vacuum and fuel pump testers, injectors, voltmeters, calipers, and dial indicators) to identify malfunctions and make repairs to heavy mobile equipment and vehicles; and 3) Installing components such (e.g. pistons, valves, bearings, gears, and cylinders) to specified clearances.
