About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Director for Administration, Department of Facilities Management, and will be responsible for the WRNMMC Hazardous Materials Program. Parking at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is limited, the use of commuting alternatives is recommended.

Duties

Manage and direct the Hazardous Materials Program effectively using resources and optimizing productivity. Participate as a full member of the Environment of Care Committee administering the Hazardous Materials Management Plan and leading the hazardous Materials Management Sub-Committee. Develop and organize the environmental education program goals and objectives. Conduct training courses on the Hazard Communication Standard. Respond to chemical spills and assists facility Departments and Clinics in minimizing threats to the environment or to human health. Advise Departmental representatives on personal protective equipment (PPE) used to prevent injury and death. Serve as the Hazardous Materials Coordinator, providing the overall planning, policy development, and implementation of the program.

Joint Commissions Environment of Care compliance standards; establishing, maintaining, monitoring, and coordinating a sustainability program for the hospital; and developing policies/procedures for hazardous materials management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
