This Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is under the direct supervision of the Environmental Management Services (EMS) General Foreman, Department of Veterans Affairs Corporal Michael J. Crescenz (CMCVAMC). The primary responsibility of the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is to serve as a working supervisor within the Environmental Management Service and to provide unit supervision of Environmental Management Staff at any of the CMCVAMC divisions/campuses and or facilities.

Duties

In this capacity, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor provides facility care services such as sanitation, housekeeping, bed management, bed cleaning, waste management (WM), Regulated Medical Waste-RMW (Collection, In-Hospital Transport and Storage Only), Sharps Containers-RMW (Collection, in-Hospital Transport and Storage Only), assisting with integrated pest control, assisting with laundry, linen distribution services, employee uniforms, patient effects services, lost and found services, interior window cleaning, recycling, environment of care (EOC) rounds, system delivery, Green Tracker and waste management. As a working supervisor, incumbent provides supervision to Housekeeping Aid Work Leaders, 130+ Housekeeping Aids and CWT workers. In that regard, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is responsible for serving as the first line supervision, adjusting assignments to ensure smooth work flow, meeting daily/shift goals and objectives, checking work production, performing written quality assurance checklists, inspections and communicating tasks/ projects to employees. The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is responsible for coordinating production work, issuing tasks, duties and assignments, taking daily attendance, time keeping, issuing keys and overseeing key stewardship/key security control. Additionally, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor assists with EOC rounds, follows up with deficiencies found on EOC rounds, inspects dumpsters/trash bins, assists with pest control surveys, assisting with Canadian Geese control, provides information to contractors, signs manifests for waste management, and performs window cleaning. The Supervisor is expected to conduct physical and visual inspection of beds, rooms and other spaces space before and after the room/space is serviced by EMS staff. Such duties may also include; performing housekeeping aid duties, floor finish work, top scrubbing, bed cleaning, room cleaning, customer service, training and service delivery. The incumbent prepares written daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly work schedules for housekeeping staff. Incumbent follows work requirement annotated in the EMS, Canteen agreement and develops written balanced work assignments for staff. Housekeeping Aid Supervisor trains staff including new employees in routine cleaning procedures, uses approved method and techniques for cleaning and disinfecting of equipment used in isolation areas. Informs and instructs staff on new developments in clinical housekeeping techniques and procedures. Periodically may be required to use computer and common software to communicate using outlook, phones, word, excel, vista, and assist unit employees with VATMS, log in and out as may be needed for review the employee to learn, view and print pay check stubs, see their own eOPF records, etc. Other duties as needed. Work Schedule: 3:00 pm -11:30 pm Sunday - Thursday However, at times, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor may be required to coverer additional units, unpopular tours as required by the staffing needs. May be required to work either day or evening shifts and rotating working holidays and weekends. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent is subjected to a great deal of walking, standing, bending, stooping, and climbing stairs. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see and recognize evidence of unsanitary conditions. Usually works in a well-lit, climate-controlled building but may be exposed to the outside elements periodically. The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is expected to cover other units and may have to make use of government buses or vehicles to travel to another geographic location up request, attend meetings on other campus as requested. Utilizes radio, cell phone or phone and responds to service calls. Uses computers frequently for documents, email, timekeeping, HR Smart actions.
