About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Medicine, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices. Duties

Assists the physician in the performance of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and other specialized procedures to include insertion of chest drainage tubes, tracheostomies, emergency thoracotomies, gastric lavage, suturing lacerations, etc. Administers oxygen, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions and all types of medications during emergent events to include intravenous, intraosseous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, by mouth and rectal routes. Operates specialized medical equipment such as resuscitators, defibrillators, electrocardiographs, oxygen apparatus, intravenous pumps, and rapid intravenous infusers. Independently instructs and demonstrates to patient/family/significant others how to provide self-care to include wound care, changing dressings, care of catheters. Performs a variety of administrative duties as an extension of and in support of the Clinical Head Nurse. Screens patient records to assess patient history and identify health related conditions and/or medications that may impact the patient health status.

  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations and for evidence of tuberculosis unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support training certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
  • This position requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network or complete and maintain verification of the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
  • This position requires Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • This position may require rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This is an inclement weather essential position. Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". The incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission during severe weather and emergency conditions.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be on-call.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Emergency): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes Providing comprehensive emergent nursing care; Performing triage; and Screening patient records or taking patient history. OR Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field. EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program. OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
