This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Base Cape Cod, Buzzards Bay, MA.
Duties
The purpose of this position is to utilize the knowledge and application of engineering equipment operator trade practices. The majority of time is spent as a working leadman. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member for the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:-Assigning all work received from the shop supervisor to team members and providing necessary instructions and guidance.-Operating one or more type of heavy equipment such as grader backhoe, front-end loader, street sweeper, road magnet, trench digger to push, pull, pile or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth or refuse in connection with road maintenance, land clearing and snow removal.-Excavating, digging trenches, loading dump trucks with refuse; plowing snow.-Coordinating and Managing the operation and movement of equipment with a gross combined weight rating of 26,001 lbs or more.-Adjusting the attachments on heavy equipment for proper level, angle, or depth according to work to be done and the type of equipment used.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The applicant is subject to pre-appointment and random drug testing.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
