This position is a Laborer, WG- 3502-4 working in Klamath Falls, Oregon for the R8-Klamath Falls Fish and Wildlife Office.

Duties

As a Laborer your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Performs basic facility preventative and corrective facility maintenance to include caulking and painting and replacing in-kind standard building materials. Applies a basic knowledge and understanding of elementary carpentry principles to measure, cut, and install and repair in kind wood products where the finished appearance of work products is not the primary consideration. Uses a variety of hand tools on projects requiring minimal trade skills to include: measuring, cutting, drilling, hoisting, leveling, etc. Assists trade employees in removing, repairing and replacing facility equipment and materials Work may involve manually digging, raking, loading and unloading, spreading materials, train maintenance, and tending fences. Operates powered lawn mowers, clears trees and brush from fence construction areas using an axe, brush hook, hatchet, handsaw, Chainsaw, or similar hand too. Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, etc., or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable heavy physical effort. Operates large, complex riding lawn mowers that have multiple or independently controlled cutting decks, and/or specially designed mowers that operate on slopes (4:1 or less); lawn and garden tractors with various specialty attachments such as gardening attachments, trenchers, snow plowing or removal equipment, etc. The equipment operated characteristically includes single-function performance and components that are independently controlled through various hydraulic and/or mechanical devices. Laborer must have a valid state driver license with the ability to operate light and medium fleet vehicles, including 4x4s, to perform normal work. These include pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, jeeps, and station wagons which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds). The operator's responsibility for safe operation is elevated due to work in hazardous environments while operating equipment and machines. Operators must remain constantly alert and operate the equipment and machinery safely and carefully to prevent injuries or damage to self, others, or the equipment. Keeps written maintenance records for all equipment operated. Keeps equipment log books up-to-date at all times. Inputs equipment service and maintenance data in the Service's approved maintenance database. Physical Effort: The work performed requires the exertion of very heavy physical effort in performing facility and land maintenance assignments, operating large riding mowers; or lawn and garden tractors on grades and in areas with bushes, trees, and other visible obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance. Work consists of a variety of repetitive actions and work sequences. The worker may be required to perform duties requiring several distinct tasks or steps (e.g. unloading materials, moving them to a specific location, and stacking them). Care is required in the use of equipment and power and hand tools, and in lifting heavy objects to avoid damage of the tools or objects and injury to the worker. Working conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Equipment and tools used require special alertness and care to avoid serious injury. Work performed outside is in a variety of settings where steep terrain, extremely uneven, rocky and slippery footing is normal. Indoor work is in office buildings, warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes or injury from equipment associated with power equipment or hazardous materials.

Qualifications

To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
