This job is located in the Maintenance Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mid-South, Millington, Tennessee. Primarily, the incumbent of this job is a Maintenance Mechanic Leader responsible for maintaining buildings, grounds, and associated equipment of the MWR Department in a state of good repair, functionality and appearance.

Duties

The incumbent will normally lead two maintenance mechanics, (NA-09), four Maintenance Workers (NA-05/07) plus four Laborers (NA-02). Applying standard maintenance procedures, inspects and diagnoses minor problem areas and leads the crew in performing general maintenance work both indoors and outdoors. Will make daily work assignments to ensure all tasks are covered. Receives work assignments in the form of work orders, sketches, or verbal instructions. Ensures that required materials and equipment are available for work to be accomplished. Lays out the work to be accomplished, sets the pace for other employees to follow supervisor's instructions in order to meet quality standards and established deadlines. Applies well established carpentry, plumbing and painting skills together with a good knowledge of general maintenance tasks. May personally perform outside repairs such as securing loose shingles and siding, patching roof leaks, repairing or replacing steps, porch floors, guard rails, installing or repairing fences and repainting repaired areas. Lays out and performs general plumbing repairs, replacing faucets or washers, repairing toilet flushing devices, clearing clogged drains and tightening leaking pipe joints. Ensures that general electrical repairs to switches, boxes, and replacement of electric light fuses and minor fixtures are accomplished. Cleans, oils, and performs operational maintenance on small motors, fans, blowers, pumps, and refrigeration systems equipment. Performs such other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate possess the following: High school graduate desired. Must have at least two years of experience and a practical knowledge and skill in carpentry, painting and grounds keeping; and, working knowledge of basic shop machines, power tools and their safe operating procedures. Maintenance mechanics at this level plan and carry out projects from initial layout to completion. Must be familiar with the basic skills, tools and materials required to make repairs to buildings, athletic fields and ground structures. In addition, must be able to interpret written and verbal instructions, give direction, use simple mathematics and measure materials according to an established plan.

Education
