Duty Location: Glendale, Arizona
Duties
The primary duties of this position are:
Coordinates efforts to schedule required and other work-related safety courses and maintain employee training records.
Organizes and distributes safety information, such as pamphlets, posters, and memorandums.
Notifies leadership of hazardous conditions found in routine inspections and follows up to assure that conditions have been abated.
Reviews Environmental Site Assessments, other related hazardous material documentation, and ensures the Area Office complies with the Department of Interior's hazardous material/waste policy.
Actively participates with Area Office leadership, staff, and local authorities to develop fire protection plans for offices, laboratories and when appropriate, field work sites.
Reviews copies of all accident forms (DI- 134 SF-91, CA-1, etc.) and provides support to the Area Office staff in navigating proper accident procedures and policies.
Conducts or assists in conducting safety inspections of all offices, facilities, laboratories, vehicles, shops, and partner-managed facilities at least annually.
Assists in maintaining applicable safety regulations, guidelines, manuals, safety plans, and policy documents.
Works with Contracting Officer/Grants Officer to implement and administer a variety of assigned contracts, including construction contracts, service contracts, P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act as amended, contracts, interagency agreements, and financial assistance agreements.
Qualifications

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must meet one of the following Education or Experience:
EDUCATION: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of full-time specialized experience in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized Experience must demonstrate all the following:
Managing safety or occupational health program elements.
Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
Experience in one or more environmental compliance related fields such as Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; Solid Waste Management/Recycling; and spill response to complete tasks/projects.
Reviewing safety and environmental standards, specifications, and plans of projects and collaborating with planners and designers to ensure compliance.
Conducting site investigations, audits, and surveys and collaborating with customers and other organizations to resolve safety and environmental compliance concerns.
Supporting development of and providing training to personnel for safety and environmental compliance.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered.

Education
You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience.
Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission will result in being rated not-qualified for the position.
You will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify educational qualifications, if selected. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree. Academic transcripts certified by notary publics are NOT official. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to reporting to work as a condition of employment. Failure to submit official transcripts may be grounds for dismissal or rescission of the job offer.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
