Duties

Collection, analysis, and evaluation of surface and groundwater quality and quantity data. Assist with resource inventory and monitoring. Evaluate data, identifies trends in movement of water and any known contaminants, as well as trends in lotic and lentic system functionality and conditions.

FOR GS-04: In addition to the individual occupational requirements, you must possess six months of generalized experience AND six months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: The ability to complete downloading and inputting data and running analysis for the Hydrologist, And collect, organize and resent information in office and field situations. -OR- Education: 2 years above high school with courses related to the occupation. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. FOR GS-05: In addition to the individual occupational requirements, you must possess one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: The ability to independently complete downloading and inputting data and running analysis for the Hydrologist, And independently collect, organize and resent information in office and field situations. -OR- Education: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is performed both in the office and in the field. The work is performed in the field and requires walking, bending, climbing, and possibly standing in creek bottoms or slippery streambeds. Work Environment: The work is performed both in the office and in the field where the incumbent is subjected to varying climate conditions while performing work on steep/rocky terrain and/or in slippery streambeds. The incumbent will conduct field work across rugged terrain, carry personal and technical field equipment, and withstand inclement weather conditions.

Education

In addition to the experience requirements described in the Qualifications section of this announcement, you must meet the Individual Occupation Requirements of this position as follows:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above):

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

  • Technician or aid in engineering, earth, physical, or natural science, forestry, soil conservation, or surveying.
  • Trades or crafts work in maintenance or construction of facilities or equipment related to hydrology.
  • Drafting.
  • Construction estimating.

or

Education and Training:
For GS-3:

Successful completion of l year of study that included at least one course in subjects such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics.

For GS-4:

Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3.

For GS-5:

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with (a) major study in an appropriate field of science, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3.

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.
