This position is located within the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) at the VA Medical Center, Salem, Virginia. The primary duties of this position are to maintain accessible records and provide efficient service for direct and indirect patient care by managing the receipt and scanning of health documents in a timely and accurate manner.
Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:
Carries out a variety of health information functions and performs duties related to the receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information;
Scans health information electronically assuring that the scanned documents are associated to the correct patient and note;
Confirms record integrity and reviews image quality;
Ensures regular quality checks are carried out according to prescribed timeframes and criteria;
Reviews documents for appropriate scanning criteria and ensures that all necessary health/administrative information also meet criteria;
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. ~AND~
EXPERIENCE: GS-4 Have at least one (1) year of general experience that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a File Clerk GS-4. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates your ability to perform the duties of this position. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
EDUCATION: Two (2) years of education above the high school level for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~
COMBINATION: Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and general experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary; however, there may be lifting and carrying of bulky records and/or boxes, usually not exceeding 50 pounds.
