About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate for Nursing Services (DNS), which provides Nursing Leadership, Inpatient Bed Management, Discharge Planning support, Nurse Methods Analysis, business operations support, and Clinical Medevac Management for in-bound patients. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Recruitment / relocations incentives may be authorized in accordance with agency policy.

Duties

Assess deep wounds, skin tears, ostomies, severe burns, pressure injuries or bedsores, and diabetic foot wounds. Perform specialized procedures (e.g., removing dead tissue, cleaning wounds, and bandaging). Create and implement a plan of care to help prevent wounds from worsening. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to plan skin care interventions. Work with diabetics who have skin ulcers to prevent severe complications. Educate staff nurses on wound care protocols. Educate patients and their caregivers on wound care procedures and preventative measures. Chart information for insurance reimbursement. Write nursing orders that promote wound healing and/or prevent skin breakdown. Stay up-to-date with current wound treatments.

• Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
• This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Specialist/Wound Care): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes professional nursing care in the treatment of wound care patients such as grading/staging wounds; treating various patient ulcers, traumatic and draining wounds, etc., to patients within an inpatient (hospital) medical treatment facility; documenting treatment in electronic medical records. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
