This position is located in National Capital Area Office, in the National Capital Region Communications Center and provides public safety dispatch operations.

Duties

The major duties of the Public Safety Dispatcher position include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs dispatch and call taking services for public safety related incidents and operations. (Services may be provided to multiple units and/or multiple jurisdictions.) Receives and evaluates emergency calls for service. Provides dispatch support to law enforcement activities. Coordinates use of assigned radio frequencies, directs radio traffic to appropriate channels, and restricts channels to emergency use as necessary. Serves as primary point of contact for law enforcement and other public safety responders monitoring traffic and assisting operations. Serves as a certified operator of National Criminal Information Network (NCIC), National Law Enforcements Communications System (NLETS), and State criminal information networks (i.e., ACCESS, TLETS, VCIN, etc.). Monitors a variety of alarm systems including intrusion, fire, robbery, panic, and maintenance related systems. Assists law enforcement officers with investigations Processes incident reports and violation notices. Maintains records and logs of significant events. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/22/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Minimum Qualifications To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include ALL of the following: Customer service based experience in a high-pace environment where the ability to make quick decisions is key; Operate multi-line telephones, computers or radio equipment to provide information; AND Collect information from callers and input into computer system. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include ALL of the following: Customer service-based experience in a high-pace environment where the ability to make quick decisions is key; Operate multi-line telephones, computers or radio equipment while inputting information collected from callers into computer systems; Operate public safety dispatch systems such as NCIC, NLETS, CLETS, or Computer-aided Dispatch (CAD) with limited supervision; AND Operate computer-based equipment to include, but not limited to alarm monitoring systems, records management systems, computer aided dispatch systems, message notification systems, and report writing systems. You must include hours per week worked. To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include ALL of the following: ???????Perform public safety dispatching (law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue, and fire) using personal computers and software programs to input data collected from callers; Independently operate public safety dispatch systems as: NCIC, NLETS, CLETS, or Computer-aided Dispatch (CAD); Operate computer-based equipment to include, but not limited to alarm monitoring systems, records management systems, computer aided dispatch systems, message notification systems, and report writing systems; and, Obtain information from incoming callers to disseminate during emergency situations. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade levels of GS-6 and GS-7 of this announcement.
