This position is located in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, in the Resource Management Division. The typical seasonal service period is September through June due to widllife season, but can be variable due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform routine and uncomplicated biological science tasks common to natural resource management. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing natural resource management projects, making field observations of natural resource conditions, and assisting in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines. They will provide logistical support and area orientation for contract or cooperating scientists as well as installing, operating, and maintaining resource management equipment. They will provide advice, assistance, and training to students, interns, and volunteers. They will also utilize a variety of computer programs to compile, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data. Locate capture and euthanized wild hogs. Collect biological data for disease monitoring, maintain proficency with the use of firearms. Operate 4x4 vehicles and UTV's in steep terrain. This position is primarily concerned with research, conservation, and management of wildlife. You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties in the field.

To qualify for this position at the GS-0404-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as assisting in gathering and analyzing biological samples, maintaining biological information in a database, and collecting data on wildlife activities. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field of scientific or technical study, such as in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to this position. (For example, wildlife biology or wildlife management). Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
