The direct hire authority for Physical Scientist, GS-1301 is being used to fill this position.
Salary: $69,107 (Step 01) to $89,835 (Step 10);
NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

As a Physical Scientist within the Saint Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Physical Scientist, all grade levels.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties or materials, and electronics.
B. A combination of education and experience/course work that is equivalent to a major in physical or engineering science or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science. (CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS ON HOW TO COMBINE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)
GS-11: In addition to the basic education requirement above, you must meet one of the following to qualify:
**Three years of progressively higher level graduate education (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a Ph.D. degree in physical science or other directly related field of study or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in physical science or other directly related field of study if it provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position to be filled.
**OR one year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Examples of such experience may include: (1) supporting project leads in developing, running and analyzing coastal hydrodynamic and morphological models; (2) developing new methods to analyze short- and long-term changes in hydrodynamics and coastal morphology that will support studies of storm and sea level rise impacts, as well as restoration assessments; (3) having an understanding of oceanography, coastal engineering, numerical methods, and computer programing; (4) disseminating findings through peer-reviewed journal articles, reports, data releases and presentations to a variety of audiences including the scientific community and coastal managers; and (5) supporting transdisciplinary projects to deliver meaningful results of coastal change hazards to stakeholders and end users.
