This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

The major duties are:
Maintains and organizes the sequence and timing of work assignments performed; i.e. the ability to assist, evaluate, analyze, change workflow, and coordinate his/her own work activities in addition to those of the other technicians in the area.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of USP 795/797/800 chapters and hazardous drug handling to assists in management, compliance, staff education activities, training, and room certifications.
Coordinates ward/clinic/CBOC and pharmacy area monthly medication inspections, processing outdated, unusable, and excess inventory for return via reverse distributor and reconciles credit reports for PS management review.
Coordinates drug recall and removal process by informing appropriate personnel, affected patients, checking for applicable lots and removal from working stock, sequestering recalled product as required.
Operates all automated dispensing equipment, demonstrating the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and software problems. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to make mechanical adjustments when appropriate.
Provides PS management team analysis of medication and supply usage trends and knowledge of medications to make recommendations for adding or substituting various medications and supplies
Maintains control records, collecting data on any deviation in equipment accuracy, operation, or suitability. Recognizes and notifies the supervisor of such deviations.
Routinely runs reports for outdated drugs and usage report to assure optimal efficiency of the device. Identifies cassettes and canister problems and devises a plan to repair or recalibrate canisters/cassettes to maintain optimal efficiency of the device. Returns and or exchanges broken canisters, cubies, and other parts through the appropriate contracted pathways with the equipment manufacturers.
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm Rotating Holidays. When other tours required to meet the service line needs.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/3/2023
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education or Experience. A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience.
Certification. Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Grade Determinations:
Experience. One year experience at the next lower level (GS-6) and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities.
2. Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes.
3. Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff
4. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment.
5. Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process.
6. Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures.
7. Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures.
8. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in8 information systems.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-7.
Physical Requirements: Routinely involved in walking, bending, stooping, lifting and handling items not to exceed 50 lbs. Includes prolonged periods of standing and irregular work shifts
