About the Position: Serve as a Supervisory Firefighter (GS-0081-9) with the Fort Carson Department of Emergency Services, Fire Protection and Prevention Division located in Colorado Springs, Colorado This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Duties

Serve as Company Officer for Fire Stations, with responsibility for structural firefighting and rescue operations for hundreds of buildings. Provide wildland firefighting. Directs aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF) and standby for aerial medical aircraft and helicopter and civilian aircraft on an emergency, overseeing personnel. Represent Chief Officer of Operations during the absence or directed by Supervisor. Plans work to be accomplished, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

  • Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued required level of physical health, ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

  • MEA for Firefighters is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37.
  • Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time. Are you willing and able to travel.
  • This position is required to successfully complete an annual Job Performance Test.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Employee is required to participate in a physical fitness program as described by DOD and NFPA standards.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
  • May be called upon to support firefighting activities, Hazardous Materials Incidents, and ABC incidents by performance of critical duties such as Incident Commander, Sector Chief, or Safety Officer.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS:: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain ALL of the following Department of Defense, IFSAC or Pro Board certifications: 1) NWCG/NIMS ICS qualification indicating Firefighter Type II certification (Red Card); 2) Department of Defense (DOD) Fire Officer II, 3) DOD HazMat 4) Incident Commander certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification, 5) DOD Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, 6) DOD Instructor I, 7) DOD Inspector I and 8) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M This position also requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic or State equivalent Emergency Medical Technician Basic certification.
