Duties

Works under general supervision of the supervisor or lead who assigns projects to be accomplished. Performs seasonal gardening tasks involved with preparing planting areas, laying sod, watering, planting, transplanting, pruning and trimming plants, shrubs and trees. Skill in applying fertilizers evenly and placing seeds and plants at proper depths. Skill in operating hand and power tools and equipment (seeders, spreaders, edger, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers). Maintains flowers and seeded areas to ensure attractive appearance. Applies fertilizers and chemicals. Reports atypical plants to supervisor. This position requires the incumbent to perform non-supervisory work requiring a knowledge of gardening procedures and skill in growing and tending lawns, flowers, shrubs, and trees.

• Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and the pushing of carts and wheelbarrows. Climbing is required to prune or trim vegetation.
• Selected applicant must be able to pass a Medical Physical Examination.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must have demonstrated knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks, such as fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, pruning, trimming, and applying chemicals to plants. 2. Must be able to work under general supervision, responding to initial oral and written instructions and completing assigned tasks. Resume MUST clearly reflect the knowledge and experience listed under the minimum qualifications criteria above.
