This position is located in Region 6 on the Umpqua National Forest in Cottage Grove, OR.
This position is the Center Manager for the Dorena Genetic Resource Center which is a facility for genetics, forest health (disease resistance), tree improvement, and to develop plant growing protocols of native species to be shared with other nursery growers nationally.

Duties
Oversees the development of standards, methods, and procedures related to the regional mission
Serves as the National Tree Climbing Program Manager, who leads and manages the training and certification
Authors guides and policy as well as accepted protocols for safe operations on all Forest Service units at the National and Regional level.
Coordinates and integrates several complex segments of professional, technical, and/or administrative work
Leads and manages the staff of the Center that is a major provider of natural resources products and services
Requirements

A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience in the amounts listed below.
Basic Requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in federal service.
Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting two or more of the following:
Used established practices and procedures related to an analysis of large multi-regional natural resource data, coordinating work projects related to forest vegetation and organizations and summarizing and producing materials to communicate natural resource findings to federal, state and private cooperators;
Solving all manner of problems and acting as a subject matter expert related to a multi-resource natural resource products and services;
Solving all manner of problems and acting as a subject matter expert related to natural resource a monitoring and analysis of data collected in monitoring program(s);
Managed human resources related to natural resource program, planning field operations and ability to apply research from multiple sources, including higher education institutions, by adapting the most current technology and knowledge to field operations of a natural resource agency;
Provided technical guidance and leadership to plan and implement a natural resource program that includes cooperative work with multiple federal and nonfederal partners;
Provided leadership and guidance to develop national certification program(s) for staff preforming work requiring advanced skills to avoid risks to personally safety

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
