You will serve as a Painter Helper in the Repair Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.
Duties
You will assist in the preparation of wood, metal, and other surfaces for painting through methods such as de-scaling, sanding, washing, sandblasting, water-blasting and scraping.
You will set up material storage and preparation service areas for sandblasting and painting, segregating and stacking materials, mixing, shaking, and straining various types of paint coating materials.
You will learn the use and applications of airless and conventional spray equipment.
You will learn the proper application of paint and coatings such as inorganics, epoxies, polyurethanes, polyamids, alkyds, vinyls, etc.
You will use various cleaning agents to clean painting equipment and clean up areas after they have been painted.
You will assist in protective masking prior to spray painting.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 40 pounds in weight.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to work a Shift Work schedule. A Shift Work schedule describes work performed with varying and/or rotating shifts.
- You must be willing and able to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays).
- You must be willing and able to work onboard ships.
- You must be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. You must be able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
