This position is located within the Facilities Engineering unit of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility for the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Manhattan, KS.
In this position, you will perform many different processes related to operating, maintaining, modifying, testing, and evaluating electronic equipment.
Duties
Utilize a wide variety of test equipment such as test meters, Voltmeters, ammeters, watt meters and ohmmeters.
Possess knowledge of wire size, type and arrangement for proper and safe operation of electrical systems.
Supply sketches for all changes and modifications of original and new installation for as-built drawings.
Troubleshoot VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) and some of their components.
Troubleshoot electrical distribution systems, oil and dry transformers, motor control centers, a wide range of voltage (15 KV (kilovolt) level and under), amperage, phase and frequency systems.
Employ building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the work.
Perform tasks involving the use of electrical hand tools and power equipment such as power drills and conduit benders.
Requirements

Physical Effort
Incumbent performs duties in crawl spaces, on ladders and scaffolding. Ability to operate boom trucks. Work requires close hand and eye coordination, active walking, prolonged periods of standing on concrete floors, climbing, bending, reaching and working in cramped positions or crowded areas or confined spaces (manholes). Ability to lift equipment or material weighing up to 75 lbs.
Working Conditions
Incumbent usually performs work inside of heated building, but may be required to work on equipment located outside of buildings and on rooftops. Incumbent is subject to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, bums, infection, mechanical injury, gas, cuts, bruises, fumes, dirt and grease.
Clothing changes are provided by NADC while at a duty station. May be required to shower prior to reporting to duty station in accordance with entrance/exit safety protocols for specific areas of the Center. Safety equipment must be used when required. Incumbent is required to wear a full-faced respirator when working in biological control settings.
