This position is located within the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The person in this position serves as the Motor Vehicle Operator. The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered ambulances, sedans, buses, and passenger vans to transport patients, or tow or recover equipment. The vehicles are driven on government installations, public roads, and highways.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Turn in old vehicles and receive new vehicles from General Supply Administration (GSA). Provide non-emergent, safe transportation of eligible Veterans, visitors, employees and cargo. Drive the vehicle on various roads conditions to safely transport passengers and materials to their destinations. Load and secure wheelchair patients in the vehicle. Operate and provide preventive maintenance for the patient transport vehicles. Interact in a courteous and respectful manner with a wide variety of people. Report any accidents, breakdowns, or equipment failure/needs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday. 7:00am - 3:30pm. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/30/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires the ability to sit and drive for long periods of time. Must possess the physical qualifications required to secure an operator's permit and the ability to perform some lifting of materials. Also is subjected to hazardous conditions such as working outside in all kinds of weather; exposure to dust and automotive fumes while operating vehicles; exposure to traffic accidents; and exposure to mental and isolation type patients.
