You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC in the PORT OPERATIONS PROGRAM of NAVBASE POINT LOMA.
Duties
You will set up and operate machine tools (e.g., small lathes, milling machines, drill presses, precision grinders) to manufacture component parts.
You will install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
You will troubleshoot mechanical systems and components of marine machinery and equipment to identify needed repairs.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Mercury, and Johnson/Evinrude certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Commercial Class A License needed to tow small boats off base and HAZMAT Endorsement to operate the Vacuum Truck.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain all standard oil spill response training as required by 29 CFR 1910.120.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

The work requires varying periods of standing, climbing, boarding, and de-boarding of trailered or floating craft. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and step over three foot bulkheads on a rocking boat. You will be required to lift and move tool boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have peripheral vision that will enable the incumbent to avoid falls and moving objects. You must have sufficient hearing to hear verbal commands over surrounding noise of operating engines.
