You will serve as a Planner and Estimator (Pipefitter) in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department of PSNS & IMF.

Duties

You will analyze ship work requests, instructions and related correspondence and translate into job orders for shops and occupational groups. You will designate engineering plans and initiate the issue of blueprints to the appropriate shops. You will prepare detailed specifications and estimates for purchase of material, competitive bids and contract work. You will recommend sources of supply and the possibility of substitutions to stop material shortages and excesses, and delayed deliveries. You will perform on-site inspections in radiation and non-radiation areas to determine nature and sequence of work required on specific items. You will participate in Arrival Conferences to give estimates and advice on detailed work items. You will follow the progress of work being accomplished and revise instructions and estimates as required.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
