This position is located on the Pine Ridge Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Chadron, NE.
The incumbent of this position serves as a recreation assistant responsible for organizing and administering a conventional basic recreational and physical fitness program or segments of an entire program.

Duties
Duties are listed at the full performance level.
Participate in the overall implementation of program plans developed by Recreational Specialist or higher-level specialist.
Instruct, plan, manage, coordinate and schedule specific portions of the Centers recreational and physical fitness activities.
Instruct and counsel students in positive social and employability skills for workplace success.
Conduct, organize and plan a variety of conventional basic recreational and physical fitness training activities for students.
Operate government vehicles to transport students to and from off-site activities. This may include operating buses with air brakes.
Participate in the day-to-day administration and operations of a recreation or sporting facilities.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience are: Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; Teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; Assists in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children); Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility; Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities

One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as recreation or physical education).OR Have an appropriate combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Examples of specialized experience are: Group leader, or coach in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; Instructor or coach in school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; Assist or lead in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; Accounts for the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control in a recreation facility.

One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as recreation or physical education).
OR
Have an appropriate combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
