This position is located within the Facilities Management Services Division of Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System in Prescott, AZ. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a laborer who will be routinely performing manual labor tasks involving use of common tools and simple power equipment (e.g., power lawnmowers, both push and riding, edger's, hedge clippers, weed eaters, blowers, etc.).

Duties

Duties to include but not limited to: Operating a Tractor with brush cutter weighting more than 3,700 pounds and a forklift weighing more than 3,000 pounds. Recognizing hazardous conditions and performs necessary steps to eliminate or assist in eliminating these conditions; if not possible, works safely to avoid committing unsafe acts and be cognizant of the safety of employees for mutual protection. Maintaining the grounds free of litter and trash; pruning trees and shrubs, moving grass, weed eating, removing snow/ice from parking lots, sidewalks, steps, and entrances, and applies ice melt or sand where needed. Performing typical operator's maintenance on vehicles, such as maintaining proper oil, water, tire pressure, lubrication, tightening screws and bolts, and checking brakes and hoses. Driving and/or operating equipment and moves cargo in extreme weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, snow, ice, etc. Work Schedule: Various tours of duties and shifts, to include weekends and holidays. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/23/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Moderately heavy physical effort is required. Incumbent must possess the physical strength and ability to lift heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds, push and pull heavy carts on wheels, climbing into and out of vehicles and loading and unloading cargo. Incumbent must possess the strength and ability to operate and maintain vehicles, running power mowers on grades or pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads of fertilizer, etc. Working Conditions: Incumbent works primarily outside in all types of weather- and weather-related conditions. Incumbent must drive/operate equipment and move cargo in extreme weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, snow, ice, etc. Continuous standing, walking, and lifting is required and will be exposed to possible bumps, bruises, and other injury from vehicles or equipment. Incumbent is required to wear appropriate safety equipment for the duties being performed.
