About the Position: The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), a subordinate research laboratory under the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, is the lead medical biological defense research laboratory for the DOD Chemical Biological Defense Program. Duties

Work involves analysis, evaluation, and execution of programs, such as mail management, reports and forms control, publications, records management, training, travel, physical security, safety, and space management, etc. Requires a knowledge of administrative and managerial regulations, policies and practices; the ability to formulate, implement guidance and apply new methods and procedures in the area of administration, administrative support, safety and security. Work is complex and requires critical and independent judgment in making compromises to satisfy requirements. Work requires skill in fact-finding and investigative techniques, skill in oral and written communication and the development of presentations and reports. Participates in command, government, committees, boards, focus groups and other entities organized to share information and improve the management of records; and provides good customer service to internal and external constituents and stakeholders. Performs a variety of administrative duties to include records management, personnel services, office automation, report preparation and composes correspondence associated with duties. Plans and carries out administrative workload on a day-to-day basis in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assists in the procedural aspects of expediting the work to include instructing and informing other personnel to ensure increased efficiency. Provides assistance to Protocol Officer in planning and coordinating ceremonies and social functions, ensuring event data is accurate and up-to-date. Receives and analyzes suspense items to determine appropriate action office, and ensuring action items are entered into suspense tracking system. Uses knowledge of the principles, concepts, policies, and objectives of administrative correspondence to formulate and implement guidance and apply new methods and procedures in the area of administration and administrative support. Independently receives and analyzes suspense tasks to determine appropriate action office (either at the HQ level or to be forwarded to subordinate unit for action), and ensures actions are entered into suspense tracking system.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DJ-02/GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
